The book deals with Norwegian artist Anna-Eva Bergman (1909-1987) and her paintings from the period 1950-1975. She left behind an exceptional collection of works and had a career that stands out in Norwegian art history.
This book brings together several of her best-known monumental paintings. The simplified depictions of mountains, seas, moons and horizons speak to us today. «The way to art goes through nature and our attitude towards it», Bergman wrote in 1950. Today, the statement has renewed relevance in view of a vulnerable nature and humankind's footprint on the planet. Through her pictures, she continues to engage and create space for reflection on this subject. Furthermore, the book examines, among other things, Bergman's techniques, her relationship with architecture, as well as her abstract artistic expression. -

Marianne von Werefkin was dubbed the Russian Rembrandt at the age of 20. She played a crucial role in the development of expressionism in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century. And she was part of the artist group Der Blaue Reiter. Yet Marianne von Werefkin (1860-1938) is far less well known than artists Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc and her long-time partner Alexej von Jawlensky. From autumn onwards, Marianne von Werefkin's colourful work will be on show in a retrospective in the Netherlands for the first time, together with a number of works by her contemporaries.

Refusing to be content with a single form of expression or confined by a single artistic movement, the French-American artist Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) explored a variety of styles and techniques that few artists can rival.
Works from her entire career are presented in this publication, from her paintings and prints from the 1940s to the Cells she created in her final decades. These works enter into dialogue with artworks by Pablo Picasso, Carol Rama, Arshile Gorky, Louise Nevelson, Senga Nengudi, Alina Szapocznikow, Seni Awa Camara, Nan Goldin, Robert Gober and Anna Maria Maiolino, among others. -

This catalog, which includes in-depth archival and iconographic research, accompanies a Lucio Fontana (1899-1968) exhibition at the Tornabuoni Gallery in Rome Lucio Fontana (1899-1968), is universally acknowledged as one of the foremost figures in the generation of artists who, in the 1950s and '60s, helped bring about a radical conceptual and linguistic change in contemporary art. The role he played was explored by scholars and critics in the early years of the post-war period, and his work constituted a model for the younger generation of artists in Europe. In the past two decades, Fontana has achieved significant international renown. The essays in this catalog by Enrico Crispolti, Luca Massimo Barbero, Caterina Toschi and Piero Dorazio offer insights into the origins and characteristics of Spatialism, the artistic movement Fontana founded, which synthesized color, sound, space, movement, and time into a new type of art.

Making New Worlds: Li Yuan-chia & Friends is the first book to document the extraordinary activity at the LYC Museum & Art Gallery in Banks, Cumbria between 1972 and 1983. The LYC was the singleminded effort of the artist Li Yuan-chia, who moved to the rural North of England by way of London, Bologna, Taipei and Guangxi, China. At the LYC, Li organized exhibitions, published books, exhibited archelogical artifacts, arranged workshops and welcomed an array of visitors from local and international artists and art workers to nearby residents and travelers, many of whom became friends. In this book, which accompanies an exhibition of the same name at Kettle's Yard, the curators Hammad Nasar, Amy Tobin and Sarah Victoria Turner, establish Li's work at the LYC as a form of worldmaking, connecting his cosmic conceptual art practice, to his interest in participation and friendship as well as his engagement with nature and the landscape. Nasar, Tobin and Turner's account is accompanied by nine short texts - by Elizabeth Fisher, Ysanne Holt, Annie Jael Kwan, Lesley Ma, Gustavo Grandal Montero, Luke Roberts, Nick Sawyer & Harriet Aspin, Nicola Simpson and Diana Yeh - that trace the diverse threads and ramifications of Li's practice historically and in the present. Richly illustrated, Making New Worlds offers a provocative new way of thinking the history of British art in the 20th century. -

Cecily Brown (b.1969, London) is one of the most acclaimed painters working today. Her inimitable style shifts effortlessly between abstraction and figuration, confounding our understanding of these painterly modes and conventions. Published on the occasion of an exhibition at Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte, Naples, this lavishly illustrated catalogue is an in-depth look at one of her most conceptually rich and expressive paintings. Cecily Brown: The Triumph of Death delves deep into this gigantic, multi-panel work, which features the figure of Death riding roughshod over a town and its residents. Inspired by a 1446 Italian fresco housed in the Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo, Italy, Brown's The Triumph of Death is the culmination of a fascination with death that has permeated her work for several decades. With an introduction by Sylvain Bellenger and newly commissioned texts by Gavin Delahunty, Catherine Foulkrod and Sergio Risaliti, as well as featuring a set of related, previously unseen drawings, the book provides unparalleled analysis of this extraordinary work.

Though Mondrian is best known for his later, geometric works typifying the De Stijl movement, there is continued scholarly and public interest in the earlier figurative works depicted here The book covers the final decade of Mondrian's engagement with figurative painting, although his interest in nature, colour and space can still be seen in the abstract work for which he is now widely known This publication spotlights the celebrated modern artist Piet Mondrian's early career, a prolific period that saw the artist focus on figurative landscape painting.
Primarily made during the artist's time in Amsterdam at the turn of the twentieth century, Mondrian's dense, small-scale paintings depict the surrounding Dutch landscape - notably irrigation ditches, canals and farm buildings. The compositions are characterised by complex interactions of light and dark planes, which the artist forms through thick, pigmented strokes of green and brown paint.
Marking the last decade of the artist's engagement with figurative painting, Mondrian's exploration of the interrelationships between colour and space during this period forms the basis for his subsequent abstract works, whilst reflecting the artist's lifelong interest in nature. -
Reframing image fragments from postcards, John Stezaker's series Crossing Over (2005-13) focuses on the incidental micro-narratives of life that are often overlooked in these everyday objects.
Celebrated artist John Stezaker is widely known for his innovative approach to found photographic imagery. Building upon the corresponding The 3rd Person Archive series, the image fragments in this volume span the history of postcard production. Moving from the Victorian era to the postwar period and black and white to colour imagery, Stezaker focuses on the female figure as well as notions of return and crossing back.
Exploring time and memory, Crossing Over frames seemingly minor details, such as the figures passing on a street corner or conversing on a park bench, as well as the marks left by the physical movement of the images themselves.
